Myrtle E.  Howell
Myrtle Ellen Howell, a long-time resident of Cumberland and Atlantic died Monday morning, January 29, 2007 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa, at the age of 100. The daughter of Clayton and Ella (Tucker) Andrew, she was born June 20, 1906 in Cass County near Cumberland and grew up in the vicinity. Shortly after graduation from high school, she was married on June 24, 1924 to Ross Pringey Howell. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before his death in 1988. Myrtle received the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior in the 1930's and was in fellowship with the believers at the Atlantic Gospel Chapel.Mrs. Howell was employed at the Cumberland post office for several years and with the exception of a brief period in the 1940's, working in a defense plant in California, she spent her entire life in Cass County. Surviving are her two sons, Dr. B.D. Howell and his wife Georgeanna, Brookfield, Missouri and Dr. D. Bruce Howell and wife Kay Tulsa, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Michael Howell and his wife Rita, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Lynne Cook, Katy, Texas; Patrick Howell and his wife Theona, Tulsa, Oklahoma; William Howell and wife Karen, Gilbert, Minnesota; Andrew Howell and wife Kathleen, Englewood, Colorado; Hope Hodgkins and husband Chris, Greensboro, North Carolina; Amy McLellan and husband Dan, Mt.
